Harley Quinn Is No Superhero or Villain in Suicide Squad Says, Margot Robbie

MOVIE NEWS – Margot Robbie and director David Ayer spoke about on Harley Quinn in this summer’s Suicide Squad, saying that she’s a “gleeful killer”.

Two positively-received trailers may have had you believe that Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn will steal the show when Suicide Squad is released this summer. But while it falls under the DC Comics brand, the actress cautions that Harley is no superhero. She’s a spoiled woman who likes to partake in a little bloodshed. Harley is not a sweet girl. Margot Robbie was talking with Vogue.

“She doesn’t even have superpowers. She’s just a psychopath who runs around gleefully killing people she finds joy in causing mayhem, which makes her weirdly endearing and fun to watch,” said Robbie about her big screen alter ego

When he casted Harley Quinn, director David Ayer didn’t hold any auditions. He instantly knew who he wanted. He simply sent Margot Robbie the script, which he wrote himself, and told her the part was hers for the taking. Evidently, she said yes, and the answer came without hesitation.

It also helped that Will Smith had already signed on as Deadshot. They worked together before on the 2015 heist thriller Focus, and they had a particular kind of chemistry that couldn’t be denied.

David Ayer is the first to praise Margot Robbie‘s performance. He loves what she brings to the screen as Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel. And honestly, he can’t imagine anyone else taking on the role. About the actress, he had this to say.

“She’s a tough girl, and she’s incredibly smart and mature beyond her years. She has ridiculous depth, and she’s never been coddled, so she’s very physically courageous. The things she was doing herself as far as stunts, you wouldn’t believe. There’s only a handful of actors who do that sort of work themselves.”

Suicide Squad will arrive in theaters August 5, 2016.
