Will The Nintendo NX Arrive Earlier?

Nintendo says goodbye to the Wii U.

So far, we heard that the Nintendo NX should be out by March 2017, but the Wii U can switch the story up a bit. Apparently, the big N takes the final orders from retailers on the console. If the stores don’t order until September 30, they might run out of stock on the Wii U, according to NintendoLife. Unless Nintendo looks at the Wii U as entirely hopeless, hoping to keep it on sale for half a year with the last stocks, why would they stop the production this early? Will the NX come earlier than we thought?

TechRadar says Foxconn is already making test manufacturing runs for the NX, and the launch stock would be about ten million consoles. What about the specs?

It got translated on the NeoGAF forums (a Foxconn employee drew the sketch, and the last time we saw a sketch about the PS4 Pro, it wasn’t off at all! ), so allow us to quote it:

NX is a console-handheld hybrid. It is detachable. It contains the console itself, performance module, and the handheld/gamepad. The console (or dock) contains HDD, cartridge slot and various other interfaces. It supports TV output (but no CPU/GPU). The performance module is a portable device that provides power supply. It contains a Li-Ion battery. CPU/GPU also is contained inside. It supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and wired connections. You plug the dock inside, and it becomes a console, but you can also transfer the signals to the handheld (similar to Sony’s Remote Play). There are two SoC candidates for it: Pascal SoC from nVidia or AMD R9 SoC.

The handheld part is a 6 inch 720p screen and has a low-TDP SoC, which can satisfy basic operations with lower quality graphics when the performance module is not connected. But it can also display game graphics from the performance module which can provide a console-level graphics. A bit like nVidia Shield’s streaming. You can bring the performance module with you portable (since it has its battery).

The computing power it has falls far behind a PS4. The selling point for it is high portability and hybrid providing rich gameplay possibilities. If details don’t get revealed in Oct then maybe wait for the beginning of next year.”

The Wii U might not even reach 14 million sold consoles, despite even the GameCube finishing at 21.74 million. The NX might start out with 10 million manufactured. Will we switch this year?
