No Man’s Sky: False Advertising? ASA Is On The Case

UK’s Advertising Standards Agency (ASA from now on) is inspecting Hello GamesNo Man’s Sky, which came out in August. It is an independent regulator who „regulates the content of advertisements, sales promotions, and direct marketing in the UK [by investigating] complaints made about ads, sales promotions or direct marketing.” The game had misleading promotional material, it seems.

On Reddit, AzzerUK filed a complaint at ASA, and their response says that many others have done the same, and they also said that „Hello Games and Valve have joint responsibility.” Despite being a non-statuary body, ASA can still take down false advertising, and sanctions can happen if it doesn’t go through. All in all, Sean Murray‘s game is in some trouble…

…and it also loses players like crazy. During the launch week, 194254 players were registered on Steam, but since then, No Man’s Sky dropped out of the top 100. According to DigitalSpy, only 2123 players were registered on Sunday.

We can describe the situation with two words: rise and fall.
