If you have an HDR-supporting TV, and plan to get a PlayStation VR, prepare to plug things around…
Sony has published a detailed FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) about the PlayStation VR, and we learned something regarding HDR. This effect became available with the 4.0 firmware on PlayStation 4, so people who have an HDR-ready television got better visuals on their screens. However, the virtual reality headset will mix things up a little bit.
The PlayStation VR comes with a processing box, and we’ll have to plug the headset into it. We can then connect the box to a TV with a cable. The twist here is that while the box supports up to 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, it will not be able to use HDR.
The other point of interest is 3D audio. The PlayStation VR can only achieve that with wired, stereo headsets, so if you have a wireless headset, you won’t get 3D audio. Sony recommends disabling surround sound on our headsets, too.
Two interesting facts about the VR device which launches in eight days.
