Microsoft pulled it off: Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is performing better on PS5 at launch than it did on Steam or Xbox Series X|S. According to Alinea Analytics, around 5 million players have tried the game, with most playing via Xbox Game Pass.
The year’s most anticipated adventure has landed: Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is now available on PS5, rekindling the classic thrill of tomb exploration, hidden dangers, and exhilarating storytelling. Although MachineGames’ latest release is accessible on multiple platforms, it’s on Sony’s console that it has garnered the most praise and impressive early sales figures, outperforming its launches on Xbox Series X|S and Steam.
A recent report by Alinea Analytics indicates that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is having a remarkable launch on PS5, surpassing Steam and Xbox Series X|S in initial sales. Although the firm didn’t disclose its exact methods, the data suggests that over 100,000 copies were sold on PlayStation within just a few days, including early access and post-release sales.
This is particularly significant because the MachineGames title launched on PS5 several months after its PC and Xbox debuts. According to estimates, around 5 million players have already tried Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the vast majority through Xbox Game Pass. “It stands to reason that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle would have sold even faster on PlayStation had it launched simultaneously with other versions,” the analysts add.
The Power of Discounts in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s Success
“Xbox is monitoring these results closely. We believe they intend to release all their first-party titles on PlayStation on day one—and they will. Both players and Xbox stand to benefit from this cross-platform strategy,” the report states, highlighting the ongoing evolution of Xbox’s approach to exclusivity.
The study also notes that the game’s price cuts—from $70 to $56 for two separate one-week periods (February 24 and March 13)—significantly boosted daily sales. “Sales doubled during the discount periods compared to previous weeks, indicating that Indiana Jones has strong potential for long-term success, especially with aggressive promotions.” With 1.5 million Steam users having the game on their wishlist, discounts have proven to convert many into buyers. Alinea expects the PlayStation version to follow a similar path.
