MOVIE NEWS – Margaret Qualley, best known for her role as Mama in Death Stranding and her haunting performance alongside Demi Moore in last year’s body horror film The Substance, was cast by Hideo Kojima in a very unusual way!
One of the standout features of Death Stranding, besides its unique delivery gameplay and connection-based narrative, is its star-studded cast, including Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen. Hideo Kojima has always had a knack for spotting talent, and in Margaret Qualley’s case, his attention was captured by an unusual advertisement.
User zombietecho posted a video on X featuring Qualley in a commercial for the luxury brand KENZO. In the ad, the actress delivers a wildly chaotic yet mesmerizing dance performance, as if possessed, completely unlike anything seen in a typical commercial.
This bizarre choreography caught Kojima’s eye. Quoting the video, he revealed: “I saw this and offered her the role of Mama (Lockne) in Death Stranding.” It’s unclear exactly what aspect of the performance convinced him, but it was enough to prompt Kojima to call Qualley and bring her onboard for the game, adding to her growing fame following her acclaimed work in The Substance.
Death Stranding 2 Brings New and Returning Stars
Kojima is sticking to the winning formula for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, once again enlisting prominent actors. Alongside returning names like Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, and Troy Baker, new faces such as Shioli Kutsuna, Elle Fanning, and Luca Marinelli will join the cast. With the release date set for June 26 on PS5, the full lineup will soon be revealed.
