Nintendo Switch: Unreal Engine 4-Support Yes, 3DS/Wii U Games No!

Three new details emerged regarding the new Nintendo platform – one of them will affect new games.

Despite not being on the official Switch-partner list, Epic Games, the creators of Unreal Engine, confirmed on the official Unreal Engine Twitter account that the Switch would support Unreal Engine 4. Unity, the rival of this game engine, was already confirmed to run on the portable platform.

Japanese publication Famitsu also found out that the physical Nintendo 3DS and Wii U games will not be supported by the Nintendo Switch. With the Wii U, it makes sense: the Switch has no disc drive like the Wii U has, as it will use cartridges instead. We didn’t mention DIGITAL 3DS/Wii U titles, though – Nintendo doesn’t rule out supporting those on the Switch.

The detachable Joy-Con controllers that you can connect to the two sides of the display will be part of the Nintendo Switch bundle, so at least you don’t have to buy these separately (the Switch Pro controller, however, is a different story).

The Nintendo Switch is out in March, for an unknown price.
