System Shock Remake Switches Game Engines [VIDEO]

The pre-alpha is going under a technical overhaul, and a video shows the change, too.

NightDive Studios has been working heard on the ground-up remake of the first System Shock, but the game engine that the devs have been using up to this point (Unity) were scrapped. Jason Fader, the game’s producer, told Polygon that „Unity is not a great engine if you want to make an FPS on console.” What’s the replacement? We can tell you: it is going to be Unreal Engine 4, although admittedly, NightDive was considering Amazon’s Lumberyard engine as well before the team has made the final decision.

The switch already has results: you can check out the pre-alpha version of the game running on the new game below our article. System Shock’s remake is planned to hit the stores „mid-to-late 2018” on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
