Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy took a solid start.
In the United Kingdom, the marsupial with the pants managed to achieve a better launch than none other than Horizon Zero Dawn, according to Chris Dring of GamesIndustry. Let us repeat that: a remaster of a trilogy managed to beat an exclusive, new IP. As expected, the box breaking platformer launched right on the top of the charts, but we would rather wait a week to see if he can keep up the pace or start sliding down the ranks, as expected (although Grand Theft Auto V is still in third place…).
Activision’s CEO, Eric Hirshberg told the following to GamesIndustry: „We are experimenting with Crash. We know there’s a vocal fanbase that wanted that to come back. But you never know if that is emblematic of a larger audience or just this niche, nostalgia-based community. So far, we see some real passion for it, so that could lead to other things. Of course, we are always trying to find the next big thing. But our priority is to make sure we are servicing the communities that we are already lucky enough to have.” Obviously, his last sentence was a reference to Call of Duty, which we will talk about separately. He may have also hinted at the fourth Crash game on the PS1, Crash Team Racing, to be moved to the PlayStation 4, which would also be highly rated by the fans and players alike…
More people bought Crash Bandicoot in its first week (UK) than Horizon Zero Dawn, making it the biggest single-format launch of the year
