Ubisoft: Big Potential In China

Yves Guillemot has covered a few topics in his detailed interview with GameSpot.

The CEO of Ubisoft sees a huge potential in China: the country has no less than half a billion (!) potential customers for the French company, but they have to consider two things. Aside from the localization, the censors could be a problem for them. He also thinks that adapting Assassin’s Creed for the Chinese audience (mind you, it wasn’t ever released officially in the country – even the current-gen consoles entered the market in just 2014, way behind the other regions!) wouldn’t be a problem, either.

Guillemot also said that they are not fighting against Vivendi. They are against companies that invest into multiple fields without understanding the gaming industry, affecting the developers’ performance. (However, Vivendi was already part of the industry – they brought Activision and Blizzard under one umbrella…) Regarding the Xbox One, Guillemot is still positive, saying the same thing we previously wrote about: instead of focusing on the Kinect, Microsoft boosted the power of the console.

The only question is whether they can launch games worldwide without large issues or not… (just think of 2014’s Assassin’s Creed Unity and its early antics!)
