Life Is Strange: Before The Storm: Why Did It Become A Journey?

Life is Strange: Before the Storm is over (aside from the bonus episode…), so now we are looking back, and not ahead.

GameSpot interviewed Chris Floyd (co-director) and Ashly Burch (Chloe’s original voice, story consultant for Before the Storm). Burch says that Life is Strange reveals Chloe’s story from Max’s perspective, while the new game is telling Rachel’s story from Chloe’s angle. Rachel was quite a mysterious person in the base game. Floyd thinks it was a big challenge for Deck Nine to emulate Dontnod’s style.

Burch doesn’t know what will happen to Chloe’s character, but she will reprise her role as her voice in the Farewell episode. Floyd says that they made Before the Storm in a way that it should be played first by newcomers, as it’s mostly a self-contained story. For Burch, Chloe’s character tied to her as she was mad due to a lack of safety and love, making her a rebel. Floyd added that a lot of players could have felt similarly due to their teenage years.

For Floyd, Shakespeare’s text and its recreation, for Burch, an emotional journey is the most memorable part of the development. We liked Before the Storm… but we are now waiting for the Farewell episode.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
