Belgium Stands Against Loot Boxes!

Another country stood up and said that loot boxes are gambling!

It’s been just a few days that the Netherlands has had enough of these boxes in the games (and we wrote about the subject). Now, it’s their neighbor’s turn. They investigated several games (FIFA 18, Overwatch, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Star Wars: Battlefront II.), and only one of them was named as compliant with the law, and that’s only because Electronic Arts has removed the loot boxes from Battlefront II

The Belgian Gaming Commission’s report can be read here. Koen Geens, who already asked the commission in November to investigate Star Wars: Battlefront II (we may have written about that, too), the Belgian minister of justice, says that publishers (Electronic Arts, Activision Blizzard, Valve…) should remove the loot boxes from the games, or they could be fined to pay 800 thousand euros and spend five years in prison – the „stakes” would be doubled if minors are involved!

VG247 found no deadline for the loot box removal. Still, Geens would like to talk with the developers and publishers about the subject.

Something will happen in Belgium.
