Amy Hennig, who has left Electronic Arts half a year ago, was previously playing a pivotal role in Uncharted’s creation at Sony, praises the Japanese company’s mentality.
The veteran writer and director (and by veteran, we don’t mean her age but her experience, as she also worked on Legacy of Kain, which was about two decades ago!), had a talk at Gamelab, and it was transcribed by Gamelab. She expressed that she appreciates Sony‘s approach to single-player AAA games, proven by several PlayStation 4 titles (God of War, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Spider-Man, shortly – mentioning just three!): „God bless Sony for supporting these kinds of games because they’re terrifying to make. They’re very expensive, and it doesn’t suit the model of having a massive open world or hours and hours of gameplay or running a live service, which is what everybody is shooting for these days.”
Electronic Arts was also mentioned – they deleted her Star Wars game idea, which was codenamed Project Ragtag: „I don’t fault EA for that decision, as hard as it was personally for me. I understand the challenge. We have to come at this in different ways. I think it’s about portfolios of games at different price points that allow us to do more than just PUBGs and Fortnite-s and Destiny clones.”
Although Hennig might have backed Sony there due to her working with them, that has been several years ago, as she’s now independent, and she tries to get into VR. Regarding her Electronic Arts comments, it’s fair play to see her not blame EA whatsoever.
