Capcom Considers The Creation Of More Remakes!

Resident Evil 2 Remake might be starting another trend within the Japanese company.

Capcom is currently trying to get money with re-releases (or a collection of them, see Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, Mega Man X-X2 Legacy Collection), but with Resident Evil 2, they are remaking Leon’s and Claire’s story from 1998 from the ground up.

The company’s financial results mention that in the current fiscal year (which ends at the end of March next year), Resident Evil 2 Remake has to become a „major consumer release” to be in the „million-seller class of titles.” So in two months (as the game is set to launch on January 25 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC), it must sell at least a million copies to fit into Capcom’s expectations. „Regarding remakes and re-releases of titles in our back catalogue, we expect to explore these further with a variety of properties as a part of our strategy to utilise our library of IP,” Capcom says.

Regarding Resident Evil 2’s remake, they wrote the following: „While the base story and setting did exist, we have made the most of our cutting-edge game development environment to re-create the content, and are developing it with a budget appropriate for a Resident Evil title targeting the global market.”

Will they eventually remake Resident Evil 3, too? We wouldn’t be surprised if Capcom starts making remakes on top of re-releases…
