CI Games just announced the next game in the sniper series that will be significantly different than the third game.
Although Sniper: Ghost Warrior wasn’t perfect, I thought it was a fun experience nonetheless – for me, this game somehow clicked and because of that, it turned out to be a memorable experience. The gamers’ reception was relatively positive as well. As for the second game, it was a rather disappointing one though, partially because of the many technical problems it had. The third game wasn’t very different in that regard either, in fact, it was even more of a mess tech-wise and it had many gameplay-related problems thanks to the open-world design that the devs weren’t prepared for.
The third game received a lot of negative critics from the press and gamers alike and it obviously had an impact on the sale numbers as well. CI Games realised they wanted to do something that they weren’t prepared for, they simply wanted to do too much. Back then they promised that the next time we’ll hear from them, they will come up with a title that will be more close to the first game’s style: it will be linear as opposed to open-world with a much higher focus and attention to detail.
The day has come, so CI Games just announced Sniper: Ghost Warrior Contracts that focuses on the series’ key pillar, the sniping aspect – therefore we can assume that there will be no forced action-centric sections this time. The title already suggests that in the game, the players will have to complete different tasks, objectives and contracts and by completing them, players will earn money that they can use to buy different gear and equipment.
In terms of concept, it looks to be similar to Hitman’s spin-off, Hitman: Sniper, which provides a lot of tactical opportunities to the player and it’s recommended to replay given levels multiple times in order to earn every reward. What makes Contracts stand out, however, is that it will provide much wider levels with different options to complete the same mission.
The devs also promised that they will improve the heavily criticised graphics engine so it will be more optimized and they also want to make sure that they’ll minimize the loading times as much as possible.
Sniper: Ghost Warrior Contracts is going to release in 2019 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
