The smell reaches the Virtual Reality [VIDEO]

A new peripheral will allow you to smell your favorite digital world.

The technology to bring virtual reality to the home of players continues to advance with increasingly affordable and immersive equipment. But FeelReal‘s bet adds a new element to consider by the game developers: the smell.

FeelReal wants to add this new element to the graphics and sound to create a realistic feeling as possible to our hours of play. The concept is not new, since similar experiences have been proposed for the cinema, for example with the “Smell-O-Vision“, from the 60s of the last centuries, with little success. But this company is confident that with the increase in demand for VR in homes, so will their proposal. This add-on has been designed to be compatible with Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR, and mobile devices with support for VR. The peripheral is attached to the lower part of the different viewfinders and through 9 capsules of rechargeable odors, achieves a wide range of combinations that recreate from forests to food.

The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim VR has been one of the first titles to confirm its compatibility with this system, which also is not only in the recreation of smells, since this peripheral includes a haptic sensor, emulates the sense of touch by applying forces, vibrations or movements to the user, and that generates fog or different temperatures. An app that accompanies the peripheral also allows you to personalize content from your PC to bring this experience to all types of videos and movies to our liking. An ambitious peripheral that is committed to completing the immersive experience of virtual reality.

She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
