Anthem Will Not Be Completely Playable Solo! [VIDEO]

„Every activity” will have matchmaking in BioWare‘s game.

The person who said that quote is none other than Ben Irving, one of the leading producers of Anthem on Twitter: „There is matchmaking for every activity in the game.” „Matchmaking [is on] by default, you can opt out. We think it’s more fun in a full group,” he added. However, you will have to have an active PlayStation Plus or an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play one. There’s one more thing that we need to point out: „You can play MOST of the game solo, not all of it. We think the game is more fun to play with friends,” Irving said. He seems to somewhat force online/co-op play, which requires a subscription to another service on consoles… but we hope Anthem can be PLAYED THROUGH solo. It would be highly scandalous if that wasn’t the case.

Michael Gamble, the other lead producer of Anthem, wrote on Twitter a few thoughts about microtransactions: „We aren’t going to add loot boxes. It serves no purpose.” He added: „Oh before I forget: the progression (XP curves), as well as general in-game economy balance, will be a bit easier in the demo. We want you to earn some stuff and feel what it’s like. We will also give you 100 coins to blow on some fancy cosmetics. The cosmetics and microtransactions plan is what we’ve outlined. Legion of Dawn [Edition] is four new armour packs. They aren’t just skins. Each Javelin has four armour bits. You get 16 with Legion Of Dawn, [as well as] weapons and other goodies.”

Anthem, which will get a VIP demo between January 25 and 27 for pre-orderers or those who have an EA/Origin Access or Origin Premier subscription (unfortunately, none of those is available on PlayStation 4 -you have to pre-order the game…), got an eight-minute video featuring Fort Tarsis, the single-player hub of the game, which will launch on February 22 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
