Back 4 Blood: Left 4 Dead And Evolve Dev Team Strikes Back!

Turtle Rock Studios and Warner announced their next game. Will it end up like Evolve?

Back 4 Blood is „a new game designed from the ground up as an original, premium title that marries the best of what made the co-op zombie shooter so successful with new features and state-of-the-art technology,” according to the press release. It’s a bolder statement than we’d first think. The developers already invite us to join their Discord.

Let’s jump over the press release comments, and get right into the announcement FAQ. Turtle Rock says they are going back to their roots, but innovating them, and, quoting them, „we know we have some big shoes to fill, but we’re going all out [with Back 4 Blood] to surpass everything we’ve done before.”. They said no details about the story (or the release date – not even a year was said…), but they already told us the game is in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (but they don’t rule out other possibilities, leaving the door open for next-gen, and possibly even the Nintendo Switch). No pricing is known either, but they said „the game will be a premium, AAA title,” which, seeing how Warner is involved, will mean a 60-dollar/euro price tag, as well as a season pass, plus performance dropping Denuvo for PC users.

„Right now, we’re focusing on making the best, most fun and exciting game we can. We’ll figure out the post-launch stuff later, but if we do have paid post-launch content, like microtransactions, we want to do something that the community feels good about,” the FAQ says. Bold. The game is not called Left 4 Dead 3 because it’s a new, original IP, which will have no battle royale, but there will be PVP and campaign mode instead. Here’s one more quote: „Back 4 Blood is a hugely ambitious project and we need the best of the best to come join us. As an independent studio, we have to announce early to let our industry know we’re up to something big,” and the rest turns into a job listing here.

So Turtle Rock announced after the failure of Evolve that they are making their next game, which will be a new, cooperative zombie shooter on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
