A study conducted in Europe shows that the crowd isn’t really waiting for Streaming Services, Project xCloud‘s or Google Stadia‘s launch.
Gamesindustry reports about Ipsos MORI’s GameTrack survey, conducted in France, Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The results are surprising: 70% of the people asked had absolutely no interest in game streaming services, such as the Google Stadia. Only 15% of the remaining 30% expressed interest in the Stadia or Project xCloud. Ouch: we’re pretty sure that nor Google, neither Microsoft expected such a low figure…
„15% of the surveyed gamers (defined as anyone playing games via any device) are interested in a Netflix-style streaming service for games in the four territories included in the study. The remainder either ‘don’t now’ (12%) or already utilise a service akin to Google Stadia and Microsoft xCloud (such as the current market leader, PlayStation Now). Just 3% of gamers claimed to be ‘very interested’ in such a streaming service,” the site says.
But wait, here’s another quote: „27% of surveyed gamers agreed with the statement ‘I would be more interested in a streaming service if I could download content to my hard drive’, (26% disagreed with that statement). And 41% agreed with the statement: “not having to wait for updates before playing is an advantage of streaming games” acknowledging the potential benefits of streaming services (13% disagreed).” So there would be more interest if the games could be downloaded, which is something the PlayStation Now somewhat uses…
Google Stadia will launch in November in all Western European countries except for Austria and Portugal, as well as Canada and the United States, limited to the Pro tier users for the start. The Project xCloud has no release date announced yet at the moment.
