It’s been several years since Batman: Arkham Origins came out – it’s about time to hear more about the team’s next project.
Batman: Arkham Origins, which came out in 2013 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, was an exception in the Batman: Arkham series, as it was not developed by Rocksteady (who are also quite secretive about their next game, which is suspicious…), but Warner Bros. Montreal. From them, Osama Dorias, a game designer, has confirmed on Twitter that they still work on a game related to a DC franchise.
Sarah Longthorne, the narrative designer of Sumo Digital (who work on two games for Take-Two, as discussed a few days ago), put up a small game on Twitter: „Here’s a fun thing. Whatever project you’re currently working on (or planning to work on) just for yourself, tell me the genre, the theme, [and] your biggest inspiration for it.” Osama‘s response follows: „[redacted], DC franchise, [redacted]. Sorry :(” With this response, it is now official that Warner’s Montreal studio is not straying off the path they were on previously.
So now, a DC franchise-related game is in the works at the Canadian studio, which confirms the previously rumoured (leaked?) Batman game somewhat. However, it’s almost sure at this point that if Warner Bros. Montreal is this silent, then they are likely having a next-gen title in their hands, as we’re a little over a year from the launch of the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Project Scarlett (whatever their name may be in the future…), and we might see the game announced either at the next-gen PlayStation’s or the next-gen Xbox’ reveal, potentially as a launch title. Or, potentially, it could be a cross-gen title, also available for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One as well.
…but what on Earth is Rocksteady doing?
