Troy Baker establishes the comparison with David, another of the important characters in the story.
The Last of Us was one of the most interesting video games in narrative terms of the past generation, and one of the most important aspects was undoubtedly that of Joel’s personality at the forefront of the story. Now the actor who gave him a voice in the original version, and who made his capture of movements, has spoken about it in some statements within the framework of the Manchester Comic Con that was held a few weeks ago and that have transcended now. Some things you can read below could be a spoiler if you did not play the original title at the time, so read the content carefully.
“With The Last of Us you could take it for granted that Joel is the hero and that, meanwhile, David is the villain. But … as always in these cases everyone has their own story,” said Troy Baker. “I strongly believe that David believes he is doing the best for his people, and that in his own story he would be the hero.”
“Joel, on the other hand, doesn’t think of himself in those terms. I don’t think he thinks he’s a hero, much less. If he had to position himself somewhere, I think that he would consider himself a villain, and that is why he could say that he has been on both sides, “continues the actor. “I think I could say that he’s just a guy who tries to get by, and he’s not there to save anyone. Just to live another day.”
“That said, once you play the Joker, playing villain from the player’s perspective is much more fun. Much more fun !” The actor made clear in laughter in the meeting with the press and fans.
Recently we echoed the words of the interpreter himself in which he explained that we are not prepared for The Last of Us Part 2.
