Sony might be planning more than a regular DualShock 5 – they could also release a different, new controller, too.
Even the look of the PlayStation 5 is questionable, but we have already seen images of the dev kit, complete with the V shape in its centre. The DualShock 5 has also been leaked this way (on top of two PS5 dev kits), but now, there’s a new patent that was shared by the Dutch site Let’s Go Digital once again. On it, we see an unusual-looking controller.
Even though Sony has officially quit the handheld market, it seems they could still compete with the Nintendo Switch, as the patent shows a smaller controller with a display in its centre, and it could contain a gyro and a motion sensor, and even possibly a heart rate monitor and a fingerprint scanner. Sony could make us play our PlayStation games on the go, if our console is at home, and this way, it could compete with the Google Stadia or Samsung’s PlayGalaxy Link. We could also watch TV, check our emails, or listen to music this way, with the power of the cloud. However, why does this controller remind us of the Game Boy Micro?
Another patent is about making single-player games local multiplayer titles. One player would be responsible for the analogue sticks, the second one would deal with the D-Pad, and the third player would handle the rest of the buttons and triggers. (That’s not what we meant when we thought about social gaming…) Each character would have a controller, and, based on the time and activity, their roles would change, too…
The first idea sounds promising. The second… not that much. Still, the PlayStation 5 will launch in less than a year, and these are just patents and not official announcements.
