Where Are The Stadia Announcements? Google Responds

Google’s game streaming service seems to be silent nowadays – why is that?

Google Stadia has been available in the West for a few months now, but the service hasn’t been part of the news. In the past forty days, not a single game has been added to the service, and most of the line-up has been there since the launch. Thus, Google had to respond to the situation to Gamesindustry with a statement. It’s about time: there are some critical voices on Reddit.

At the end of the Year, Google said that more than 120 games will be added to the Stadia in 2020, and in the first half of the year, more than ten of them will be exclusive. But get a load of this: „We understand the desire to hear more specifics on the games. After all, that is what it is about: the games. Of course, not all 120 titles will be announced by the Stadia team, as we leave it up to the publishers to announce their IP/games, and which platforms it will appear on — just as we will do with the exclusive content coming to Stadia. There are a lot of reasons for the time of those game announcements — anything from planned promotions or events, title readiness, proximity to first playable demo, shareholder requirements, etc. We continue to work closely with our publishing and developing partners and are here to support them in all areas. We are excited to share more about some of the exclusive games coming to Stadia soon,” the statement reads.

In other words, they blamed the third-party publishers, and they added that the 4K resolution, the wireless controller support for browsers, the extra Assistant functions, and support for more Android phones will be implemented by the end of March. Still, aside from the Stadia Pro (monthly subscription that gives you two games each month for your collection), we haven’t seen much of Stadia recently.

The Google Stadia is why Sony and Microsoft teamed up last year to work together on future streaming technologies (and Sony will have access to Microsoft’s Azure servers for the PlayStation Now, which will be used with the PlayStation 5, too), but the technology needs time. The service doesn’t look that successful at the moment.
