Codemasters: Two New DiRT Titles Are In Development

One of them is not developed by the DiRT Rally studio. (Then could it be Slightly Mad Studios? They got recently acquired by Codemasters.)

„Prepare to see something new roar to life in the world of DiRT, very soon. Developed by a separate Codemasters studio to the DiRT Rally team, we’re incredibly excited about what’s around the corner. We invite you to be part of a brand new experience, while also continuing to enjoy our definitive Rally offering,” Codemasters said in a letter to the DiRT Rally 2.0 community.

DiRT’s official Twitter account has changed its header and profile images from a DiRT Rally 2.0 screenshot and logo to a general DiRT logo. Also, Codemasters’ Twitter account changed its profile image and tweeted „Prepare for something… different” before retweeting the letter.

Back to the letter: Codemasters also confirmed that DiRT Rally 2.0 will no longer get any Seasons after the four that the game received. (In other words, the live service non-sense stops here, too.) The game will still get „some minor updates and surprises,” daily, weekly, and monthly challenges will continue, and Clubs are „stronger than ever.”

They also teased a new DiRT Rally game: „As for the future of DiRT Rally? Well… we have a few things in mind. We have big plans, driven by a passionate development team, solely tasked with taking the Rally series to even greater heights. You won’t hear about that for a while, but when you do… oh boy, will you be excited for what’s coming,” they wrote. In other words, DiRT Rally 3 will be a next-gen (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PC) title.

So Codemasters is making good use of its Slightly Mad Studios-acquisition. DiRT Rally is not a weak game (but we think the first one is better than the second), and it did become a new standard for rally games.
