Ghost Of Tsushima: Everything We Learned At State Of Play [VIDEO]

Yesterday’s State of Play was indeed exclusively about Sucker Punch‘s PlayStation 4-exclusive, Ghost Of Tsushima .

In the game, we can discover several regions (while the in-game time will pass, though), and Sucker Punch asked itself a simple question: „How can we let the island guide you in the most thematic and immersive way possible?” And the answer to the question is Guiding Wind, which is essentially the same thing as an arrow on the top of the screen in earlier games. It allows you to call a gust of wind at any time to guide towards your next destination.

During your exploration, make sure to keep an eye on the smokestacks – if you see them in the background, you might see NPCs asking for help in the distance, as the Mongols might have invaded that area. The birds could lead you to points of interest such as hidden objects, or abandoned buildings that could have some rare resources, and there will also be foxes that could help you find shrines. (Yes, you can pet the foxes.) Finding two shrines will allow you to unlock a small slot that could hold a Charm, which offers significant buffs for Jin. Areas that were already discovered can be visited easily by fast travelling, which was something we used a lot as early as in Skyrim. You can customize Jin with the previously mentioned Charms, but you need to spend Technique Points to learn and upgrade his skills. You can change his armour’s colour by using the flowers in the fields.

Jin can both fight as either a samurai or the Ghost. As the former, he honourably challenges enemies to lethal standoffs, waiting for openings via parries. As the latter, he uses more deceptive methods (luring enemies to their death with distractions). Jin can also use the Mongols’ weapons against them. He can use the grappling hook to either swing across gaps or get out of trouble.

The Photo mode will have a few features, such as colour grading, depth of field, emotion settings, wind speed and direction, particles, music, and more. You can also choose between the Japanese or the English voice track or the Samurai Cinema mode before you start the game. The latter gives you a windy, black-and-white, film-grain visual mode that resembles older samurai films.

Ghost of Tsushima launches on July 17, exclusively on PlayStation 4.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
