Star Wars Episode I: Racer Gets A Final Release Date

It’s about time: after the devs could not keep the initially planned May 12 release date, they revealed the new day.

Back in mid-May, Aspyr Media said on Twitter that „due to the ongoing work from home requirements across the industry, the game will be further delayed on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.” They announced this one day before Star Wars Episode I: Racer‘s launch. Fortunately, they didn’t pull the same schtick with the new release date.

They held themselves back here, as they announced the final release date a week before it happens: Star Wars Episode I: Racer is going to launch on June 23 on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, according to Aspyr’s new tweet. The price remains fifteen dollars.

„The 90s classic Star Wars Episode I: Racer is coming to Switch and PlayStation 4 complete with modernized controls. A beloved racing title based on the podracing sequence from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Star Wars Episode I: Racer puts you behind the controls of your favourite podracers as you speed through flaming methane lakes, Tusken Raider assaults, anti-gravity tunnels, and much more in a pulse-pounding, do-or-die fight to the finish line.

25 playable racers including Anakin Skywalker, Sebulba, and Ratts Tyerell. Race tracks spanning eight unique worlds including Tatooine, Baroonda, and Malastare. Work with pit droids to upgrade your podracer for higher top speeds and acceleration. Discover short-cuts and secrets to master your lap times. Split-screen multiplayer (Switch and PlayStation 4) and LAN multiplayer (Switch),” Aspyr’s press release said in March.

In case you missed the original release in 1999 (on Nintendo 64 and PC), and if you don’t like Star Wars: Squadrons, Star Wars Episode I: Racer could be a decent alternative. Look for it on the PlayStation Store and the Nintendo eShop from June 23.
