Rockstar bought Ruffian Games: the authors of Crackdown 2!

The studio is renamed Rockstar Dundee, but it is unknown what projects they are working on.

While waiting for Rockstar Games to give clues about GTA 6 or whatever their next project is, the studio has made an interesting move by acquiring Ruffian Games, the team responsible for Crackdown 2, and which also collaborated on the third instalment of the the Halo saga.

As of now, Ruffian Games has been rebranded Rockstar Dundee and they have been working with Rockstar since last year, helping in the development of the titles of the company responsible for GTA or Red Dead Redemption.

As reported by Companies House, the name change to Rockstar Dundee occurred on October 6, although the announcement has gone unnoticed. The new company already appears on the company’s jobs page, showing that they are fully working on acquiring new assets for the projects they are working on that, for the moment, are unknown.

Ruffian Games has extensive experience in the games industry, they have been working on games such as The Master Chief Collection alongside other studios. Some suggest that they could be working on an adaptation of the original Red Dead Redemption, but there is nothing confirmed about it.

What Rockstar’s move indicates, that despite the apparent calm, is that they intend to release various projects in the new generation of consoles, beyond the announced GTA V for Xbox PS5 and X Series. The big changes have been heard for months after Dan Houser, one of the company’s founders, left the company.
