Is Resident Evil: Village Skipping The Older Consoles After All?

Resident Evil 8 (we called it as such before the official announcement, and even Capcom considers it as „the eighth major entry in the Resident Evil series”) might be skipping the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One after all.

Currently, all that is official is that Resident Evil: Village is heading to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. However, during Tokyo Game Show’s online adaptation, the Japanese publisher that still suffers from the aftershock from the ransomware attack seemed to hint that the next Resident Evil game will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, too.

It might not happen, though: the Brazilian Advisory Rating System has rated the game for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. (We’re not linking to it, as it now gives an access denied error – the screencap below is evidence of what we discuss.) There is no word on a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One rating. It leads to two possible scenarios: either Capcom is waiting with the older consoles’ versions, which is why there is no rating yet, or the Japanese company has dumped the old consoles, possibly due to bad performance, which we have heard before.

IGN has published three official screenshots that you can see below – the game is supposed to be darker and scarier than before, but we have yet to experience it in practice to have a fair opinion. (Then again, the recently showcased leaked images show that the next Resident Evil is going crazy indeed.)

Resident Evil: Village, which will be powered by the RE Engine (Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake, Resident Evil Resistance, Devil May Cry 5 – these games used it so far), will launch in April, according to the recently leaked and discussed release schedule.
