4A Games’ New IP Is Set In A „Believable, New Universe”

The developers of Metro don’t want to work solely on this IP: they are now developing a new IP as well.

4A Games is also owned by Embracer Group (who are currently in talks of acquiring as many as 150 studios…) under the arm that is helmed by Saber Interactive. The Malta-based, but mostly Ukrainian studio are behind Metro 2033, Metro: Last Light, their respective Redux re-releases, Arktika 1 (this was developed for Oculus Rift), and Metro Exodus. They are now on the hunt for several devs for their next project.

According to their job listings, there’s a position for an environment concept artist, who has to create visually distinctive concepts to have „a believable new game universe.” 4A Games would like someone who has a „passion for FPS games.” That suggests this game would also be a first-person shooter, similar to the Metro series. They also look for someone who has a „realistic but artful and atmospheric style.” It means the game could have a similar style to Metro.

They are also looking for a senior technical artist, who would be tasked to „create the most lively video game environments ever seen.” And there’s a technical designer job opening, which suggests that 4A Games would use their proprietary engine (the 4A Engine) for the game, so they would not have to learn the Unreal Engine (or pay license fees to its creator, Epic Games). As all their previous games used 4A Engine, it makes sense. It’s probably going to be the next version of the engine.

We might have to wait a bit to see this game announced, as Metro Exodus launched two years ago, and an AAA title tends to require three years to be made (we’re not talking about annual sports games), but seeing how Embracer Group has acquired a lot recently (including Gearbox), we can say that the studio is financially in good hands.

We might hear this year what 4A Games plans to do next.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
