Project 2021B: What Could id Software Be Up To?

This game (which has a codename…) has an M rating, and it will have online interactivity. What could it be?

In January, Project 2021A popped up. It’s being handled by id Software, and TechRadar claimed that it could be a VR port of Doom Eternal. According to the Australian Classification Board, Project 2021A is rated R18+ for „high impact violence,” and its media type is virtual reality, That should be easy to figure out, right?

But here’s Project 2021B, again, on the board’s website. It’s rated M for violence and online interactivity, and it’s a multiplatform „computer game” being developed by id and set to be published by ZeniMax Europe. (Which is also belonging to Microsoft now.) Multiplatform could mean that it’s heading to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, but by definition, it could also mean nothing more than Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PC (as these also mean more than a single platform!).

Project 2021B’s rating is much lower than both Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal. These two games got an R18+ rating for high impact violence, and blood and gore. M, however, is two tiers under R18+. The two are separated by the MA15+ rating, which is given to games with „strong violence.”

ResetEra users believe that Project 2021B could be related to Quake. Quake II’s 25th anniversary is coming next year, so it could be either a remaster or a collection of Quake games. (And, we heard about a Quake rumour last week. Makes you think.)

Keep in mind that it’s not official yet (but seeing the Australian Classification Board talking about both projects, something HAS to exist to receive a rating!), but we wonder when will Bethesda announce these projects. They can’t keep their silence for the whole year.
