Sad! Warner Bros turned down LA Confidential 2 with Chadwick Boseman!

MOVIE NEWS – Warner Bros. has ruled out a sequel to “LA Confidential”: LA Confidential 2 starring Chadwick Boseman. Boseman would have been no stranger to these kinds of roles.

LA Confidential remains one of the most acclaimed films of the late 1990s. It won two Academy Awards, for screenwriters Curtis Hanson and Brian Helgeland, and supporting actress Kim Basinger, and it became a staple of home video and cable. At the time of its release, attempts were made to continue the story on a television show, but the 1999 pilot for the series (starring Kiefer Sutherland) was not cast in a series. James Ellroy, who wrote the LA Confidential novel, had previously written a sequel, called White Jazz, in 1992. But if you wanted to see more characters on the big screen, you were out of luck.

Turns out there were attempts to make a sequel, they just never came together. In an interview with The Ringer, screenwriter Brian Helgeland revealed just how far he got with an LA Confidential 2 a few years ago. He said he had attracted the actors from the original film, Guy Pearce and Russell Crowe, and was ready to pair them with rising star Chadwick Boseman. Helgeland produced a new LA Confidential 2 story with James Ellroy that “would have been set in the mid-1970s.” Boseman reportedly played a young cop, nominally fulfilling the role in the story that Pearce’s idealist Ed Exley played in the original film. LA Confidencial novel and cinema. Helgeland took this package to Warner Bros. And then…?

“We worked on everything,” Helgeland told The Ringer.

“It was great. And Warner passed. “

The article stands exactly when Helgeland made his very silent speech. It just says it happened “a few years ago,” so it’s unclear exactly how big Boseman was at the time. (It would make more sense if they happened before Black Panther came out.) And as respected as LA Confidential. I mean, it’s not like the movie is a classic franchise with millions and millions of fans desperate for future instalments. For the hardcore Confidential fanatics, however, this is a tantalizing glimpse into what could have been with LA Confidential 2.
