Raptor: Call Of The Shadows: The Developer Wants Our Help For An Enhanced Version

Scott Host is profound: the author and programmer of the vertical shooter game would like to revive his Raptor: Call Of The Shadows game from 1994.

Raptor: Call of the Shadows was the second game of Cygnus Studios, which is now known as Mountain King Studios. It was published by Apogee Software more than two and a half decades ago, and now, Host wants our help to create an enhanced version of the game for modern platforms.

“It seems like it was just yesterday when I was feverishly coding away, squeezing every last drop of power out of my 386 PC. It succeeded beyond my wildest dreams – so much so that 26 years later, it’s still what I’m best known for. But time and technology never stop advancing, and it’s finally time to dust off my keyboard and bring Raptor to a whole new generation of players and devices! Not only am I re-releasing Raptor in its original classic form, but also hoping to add a new enhanced mode to take advantage of the incredible power of modern hardware,” Host wrote.

He has a Patreon page, where for a minimum of three dollars per month (with other tiers also available), you can help him make the enhanced version of Raptor: Call of the Shadows. Host revealed a few details on what this edition of the game would offer: new music, especially for each level and scene, new, HQ sound effects, 60 FPS frame rate with interpolated movement for smoother gameplay, fixing known gameplay issues from the original version, better visual effects, and enhanced cutscenes and animations.

This project is a passion project; let’s not beat around the bushes. It sounds similar to American McGee’s Alice: Returns, but Electronic Arts has the IP’s rights in his case. Meanwhile, Host can work on the game without any legal barriers… but he will need a publisher for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch versions.

Perhaps Embracer Group can step in to help?
