Incredible: Age Of Empires II With DOOM Elements! [VIDEO]

Age of Empires II is a classic game. The same applies to DOOM as well. We’re surprised it took fans two decades to combine the two games!

Age of Empires II is a real-time strategy. The fourth main game in the series is launching shortly, even if it needed nearly two decades to be completed, but we’ve seen some weird moves by Microsoft. DOOM doesn’t need much introduction: id Software’s 1993 game has revolutionized the first-person shooter genre. Imagine the two games in a mashup.

Hellknight61 was the madman behind the creation of the Age of Doom mod, using the Genie Engine (Ensemble Studios’ 1999 game used it; the game was also on Mac and PS2 (!?) in 2001, with an HD PC re-release in 2013), and put DOOM’s world on it, resulting in a third-person real-time… shooter? Strategy shooter? “I wanted to resurrect the original DOOM for Age of Empires 2 game engine. This was my dream,” the modder says.

Age of Doom gives Age of Empires II a campaign that ports ideas, themes, and bits of story from both the first and the third DOOM games, sampling audio and enemies from both. It also ports sprites, projectiles, and effects from the first game in the series, complete with Doomguy (…or Doom Guy, that’s his name!) with a super shotgun, cyberdemons, and all. It has a tutorial and a four-chapter campaign, with a fifth chapter yet to be released.

It’s not a bad idea, and if you aren’t impressed by the video embedded below, you can still take a look at the mod on ModDB. We’re sure Microsoft will not force this mod off the Internet. Unlike Take-Two (who wiped THREE Grand Theft Auto mods last weekend), they are supportive of modding. They might even promote the mod at this rate.
