PlayStation has acquired ex-Sony devs Firesprite

It seems that Liverpool can never escape from Sony, and the devs of Firesprite are now once again part of the PlayStation family.

Firesprite is an independent developer based in Liverpool, with many members from the Ex-Liverpool Sony that closed down in 2012. Since their formation, they have made VR games and also created The Playroom for Sony.

With the development studio acquired by Sony, many former employees of Sony are once again Sony employees. Before this acquisition, the company was working on two titles – one was a multiplayer shooter, and the other was a dark narrative adventure game.

Previously besides the Playroom for Sony, they released a VR Horror game called The Persistence, so it seems Sony is trying to buff their studio list to support maybe and create upcoming VR games and create new VR IP-s.

PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst announced the news on the PlayStation Blog: “After a number of years closely collaborating on several games together, including The Playroom (PS4) and The Playroom VR (PS VR), I couldn’t be more delighted to welcome Firesprite to the PlayStation Studios family as our 14th studio”.

Firesprite’s managing director Graeme Ankers also gave a statement, saying: “Firesprite, headquartered in Liverpool in the North-West of the UK, was founded in 2012 with the vision of creating games that bring new innovations to any experience we develop.

We’ve had the pleasure of working with many talented developers and publishers across the industry and PlayStation in particular has been a friend and co-development partner for the best part of a decade, collaborating together on many exciting projects including The PlayRoom, Run Sackboy! Run and The PlayRoom VR

The complete statement can be read here from Ankers.

It is quite an exciting turn of events, of Ex-Sony Devs, in the end, returning to Sony, let us hope they will have a long, fruitful partnership for future.
