Emilio Estevez Leaves ‘Mighty Ducks’ Due To Vaccination Requirement

MOVIE NEWS – The Mighty Ducks franchise will continue without Emilio Estevez.

Emilio Estevez has left the Disney+ series due to disagreements over the show’s vaccination requirement for cast and crew. Like many shows currently filming in Hollywood, Game Changers has a policy that everyone within the Zone A group (actors and crew members who come into direct contact with them) must be vaccinated against COVID-19.

While not a blanket policy yet, the Zone A vaccination mandate has emerged as an industry standard, with its adoption footprint steadily expanding. Netflix has made Zone A vaccines mandatory on all productions in the U.S. Disney TV Studios has introduced the policy on new series going forward as well as several existing ones, including The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.

In the first season of Game Changers, which premiered in March, Graham plays Alex Morrow, who begins coaching his son’s field hockey team after he is cut from the more selective Ducks. Not knowing much about field hockey, Alex brings in Gordon to help her turn a team of losers into stars. Disney renewed the show for a second season in August. The New York native originally played the field hockey coach in the 1992 film. The Mighty Ducks, later returning for the sequels D2: The Mighty Ducks in 1994 and D3: The Mighty Ducks in 1996.

In addition to Estevez, the first season of Game Changers featured some other familiar celebrities from the original Mighty Ducks trilogy: Elden Henson as Fulton, Matt Doherty as Averman, Vinny LaRusso as Adam Banks, Margarita Moreau as Connie, Garret Henson as Guy, and Justin Wong as Kenny Wu.
