MOVIE NEWS – Game of Thrones, The Bodyguard, and The Eternals star Richard Madden is the bookies’ favourite to play James Bond, but he’s keeping quiet when asked about possibly playing the iconic spy.

The Eternals star Richard Madden has been suspiciously reticent when asked if he could take over the role of James Bond from Not Time to Die star Daniel Craig. The actor was recently asked if he would like to don his 007 tuxedoes in the future, but before he could answer, a member of his team quickly pulled him away, saying, “we’ll move on from this”, as Madden remained embarrassed. Sometimes silence really does speak louder than words…

In addition to the mysterious behaviour, Richard Madden has recently emerged as a contender to take over the role of James Bond in No Time to Die after Daniel Craig’s departure. The Game of Thrones actor is now 9-4 with the bookies, ahead of fellow James Bond favourite Tom Hardy who is currently 3-1. The Bridgerton star Rege-Jean Page, who has been a hot favourite for the role since the release of the popular Netflix series, is now third in line at 4-1 odds, while Man of Steel actor Henry Cavill is at 10-1 odds.

“After Daniel Craig, there have been several bets for the next 007, with Richard Madden being the favourite most recently,” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead. “We now believe it will be The Bodyguard star who steps into the most famous role in British cinema.”

While Madden’s departure is sure to stir up the rumour mill, it’s likely to be a while before we find out who has been chosen to continue the 007 legacies, with producer Barbara Broccoli revealing that the studio won’t even start looking for Daniel Craig’s successor as James Bond until 2022. “We are not thinking about it at all,” the producer explained. “We want Daniel to have his time to celebrate. We’ll start thinking about the future next year.”

Daniel Craig, meanwhile, said that although he sometimes loathes the role, he will be sad if someone else takes up the tuxedo. “It was incredible to do these films,” Craig said back in September. “It’s all very moving. I’m happy to finish it on my own terms. I’m grateful to the producers for letting me do this. But I certainly miss it. I will probably be incredibly bitter when the new person takes over.”

Richard Madden’s star is very much on the rise, with the actor recently joining one of the biggest franchises in movie history, the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor is part of The Eternals, bringing a whole new side to the already massive MCU. Unfortunately, we think the movie was very lousy (it’s currently at 47% on Rotten Tomatoes and 52% on Metacritic). Still, it wasn’t Richard Madden’s fault, he just played a rather boring character, but he was great in other movies.
