EA Could Revive Fight Night Franchise

Rumour suggests that the next Fight Night is on the way, but it has been paused

While the UFC franchise is moving forward with the latest UFC 4, EA has abandoned the development of another boxing-focused brand: Fight Night. Or so it seemed, as the name, which last saw the light of day back in 2011, is once again making the rounds on the internet. In this sense, it seems that Fight Night will launch a new game in the future, but we will have to wait several years to see it. Theoretically, the next instalment of the franchise will pick up after the release of UFC 5.

According to the anonymous source, the next instalment of Fight Night is codenamed ‘Moneyball’. While it is in early development, it has been temporarily put on hold to prioritise the release of the upcoming UFC 5, according to an alleged email sent by EA to its team.

EA has been widely criticized for packing UFC 4 with commercials without prior notice. The players win: the publisher takes them out.

In this regard, the source claims that the distributor didn’t want to split its developers between two boxing titles, so development on the hypothetical sequel to Fight Night has been paused.  Unsurprisingly, EA has declined to comment on what they consider to be rumours and speculation, so we won’t know anything about the title until a future confirmation if one is forthcoming.

Fans have been demanding the return of the franchise for a long time. Fight Night Champion, the last game Fight Night game to be released, hit the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and iOS back in 2011. Despite the boxing franchise being on hiatus, EA continues to expand its boxing titles with UFC. And, moving on to football, the publisher is currently enjoying the success of FIFA 22, which has remained a top-selling game since its launch in early October.
