Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory: The Single-Player Part Has Been Restored! [VIDEO]

Enemy Territory, which debuted shortly after Return to Castle Wolfenstein, didn’t reach its full completion, but one fan thought that he would do it instead of them if the developers didn’t get it done.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein was one of the biggest games of 2001 on PC. Gray Matter Interactive’s work was overseen by id Software, which owned the Wolfenstein license (but they were only executive producers on B.J. Blazkowicz’s adventure on the id Tech 3, aka the Quake III engine), and given its success, it’s not surprising that a console port was made in 2003 for PlayStation 2 under the name Operation Resurrection and Xbox under the name Tides of War, respectively. There were some differences, though…

But what has Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory got to do with it? It was originally developed by Splash Damage as an add-on, and not only would it have had multiplayer, but also a single-player story mode. However, this part of Enemy Territory never got completed, and id Software’s and Activision’s explanation was “despite a strong effort from talented developers, the single-player portion of the game did not progress as anticipated.” It led to the multiplayer portion getting released for free, with the story mode never officially being completed.

William Faure didn’t let it slide, though. He decided to take Enemy Territory’s multiplayer maps and tie them together by wrapping a story around them. He’s also made a video of the mod, and the background music is a driving, metal version of Für Elise. If you want to experience this with a friend, you’ll soon be able to, as Faure is already testing the co-op version, which he will publish on 30 November. The mod requires Return to Castle Wolfenstein to be installed on your PC, together with one of the overhaul mods (iortcw, RealRTCW, RTCW4A, RTCW-Touch, vitaRTCW, or RTCWQuest). Once you have these, you can get the story mode from the Steam Workshop in addition to ModDB.

Almost two decades have indeed passed since 2003, but what goes around comes around.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
