George R.R. Martin Saw A Rough Cut Of House Of The Dragon And Here’s What He Thinks

MOVIE NEWS – George R.R. Martin got a sneak preview of the pilot episode of the long-awaited spin-off, House Of The Dragon

2022 will have a huge amount of weighty series to offer, but undoubtedly one of the most anticipated is House of the Dragon, the first Game of Thrones spin-off.

This new story takes us back hundreds of years into the past, before the contest for the Iron Throne and the battle with the White Walkers, to bring us to the rise of the dragon family, the Targaryens. During this time, a bloody civil war known as the ‘Dance of the Dragons’ breaks out, leading to the family’s downfall and near extinction. However, House of the Dragon will focus on the family conflict between Daemon Targaryen, heir to the throne, and Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, who cannot accede to the throne because she is a woman, both dragons being children of King Viserys Targaryen.

The series is currently in the midst of post-production work, and thanks to George R.R. Martin, we have received information that there is a preliminary pilot episode, which he was able to see. The famous writer of Song of Fire and Ice, the story that gave life to GoT, had access to this episode, and according to what he commented on his blog, he liked it. George’s description of the episode is that it is ‘powerful, dark and visceral’. The writer had words of praise for Ryan J. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, the showrunner responsible for the episode.

“I am anticipating House Of The Dragon pretty eagerly myself, for what it’s worth. Okay, I am hardly objective. And I know a lot of what you will be seeing. (I, um, wrote the book). Also … mum’s the word now, don’t tell anyone… I’ve seen a rough cut of the first episode. And loved it. It’s dark, it’s powerful, it’s visceral… just the way I like my epic fantasy.”

“Ryan and Miguel have done an amazing job, and the cast… just as with Game of Thrones, most viewers will only have heard of a few of the actors, but I think you are going to fall in love with a lot of them. (Only to have your heart broken later when… but no, that would be telling). I think the Targaryens are in very good hands. Anticipate away. I do not think you will be disappointed.” he concluded. Martin’s words are more than enough to make House of the Dragon the most anticipated series of 2022.

At the moment, the spin-off still has no premiere date. Rumours suggest that it could arrive in April 2022 as Game of Thrones used to do, or it could go straight to the middle of the year.
