Babylon’s Fall: Despite A Rocky Start, Square Enix Is Not Giving Up!

It might be PlatinumGames’ worst game ever, but Square Enix may not want to realize that they have little hope of success in the live service business.

This game was unusual, even from PlatinumGames. It’s available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC. On PS5, Babylon’s Fall is in a terrible position, as it has one of the worst reviews on Metacritic, and is also the worst game of the year so far, which doesn’t reflect well on Square Enix (who shouldn’t be pushing the live service model, as they’ve already flopped with Marvel’s Avengers for not being up to par…) and PlatinumGames (from whom we’re expecting Bayonetta instead…).

On SteamDB, you can also see that Babylon’s Fall hasn’t had more than 500 concurrent players in days and was only released a few weeks ago. It’s another sign that the game is not of any interest, so it’s no wonder that Square Enix and PlatinumGames sent out a tweet reminding everyone that the game exists. They asked one question: is the live service in danger?

Here’s the answer: “No, there are no plans to reduce the scale of development on Babylon’s Fall. Content up to the end of Season 2 is practically complete, and we have started work on Season 3 and beyond. We will continue to provide new content for the game and make improvements based on player feedback, striving to keep existing players playing and attract newcomers. We would like to thank all sentinels already enjoying the world of Babylon’s Fall as we look forward to welcoming more of you in the future!”

They’ve already modified the opponents’ health to make Babylon’s Fall playable solo, which will cut the number of opponents and the gimmicks in the story. Later on, the graphical style will also be touched up, and PC optimization has been promised. Accessibility options are also on the cards. The question is whether they can get up from here…
