Hot Wheels Unleashed: The DC Superhero Season Kicked Off [VIDEO]

The Hot Wheels game adaptation, in partnership between Milestone and Mattel, continues to add content with a new season.

“Ready to race with the most iconic DC Super Heroes cars? The HOT WHEELS – DC Super Heroes Racing Season will be available on March 31, 2022, delivering to all players a large number of free and premium content that can be unlocked by completing new challenges added specifically for the Season. The DC Super Heroes Racing Season includes six themed vehicles, The Flash, Supergirl, Aquaman, Cyborg, Nightwing and Shazam. Beyond themed customization items for the Basement and the Player Profile, plenty of gears and coins will be made available for everyone. The Season will start on March 31, 2022, and it will end on June 14, 2022,” the surprisingly short press release says.

Hot Wheels Unleashed, which features third-person racing and even local split-screen multiplayer was announced by Milestone on February 25, 2021, and released on September 30, 2021. It’s a cross-gen game, so in addition to the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC trio (which is starting to be worth considering as standard!), it’s also available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The game modes include career, time trial and a track editor, and it’s based on Mattel’s Hot Wheels series of toy cars, so instead of three- or four-metre cars competing for victory, these vehicles are much smaller (and the tracks themselves are also fitting the franchise and the cars’ size).

The Italian studio certainly had a longer-term vision content-wise for this game. The licence gave them a more significant opportunity to tap into a more extensive history. Mattel launched its minicar series in 1968, giving Milestone a little more than a half-century of history to draw on.
