Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic II: A Solution To The Switch Port Crash!

Aspyr offers a solution for how KotOR II would NOT crash on Nintendo’s hybrid platform.


Star Wars: Knights Of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords was released for the Nintendo Switch in June. Unfortunately, the game testing may not have been sufficiently sophisticated, as Aspyr released the port in less than perfect condition. We don’t mean that the frame rate is alarming or that resolution is low… but there’s a nasty glitch. When you land on the planet Onderon, after the scene where we crash into the Basilisk, the game crashes, and you have no way to continue the story.

Aspyr wrote on their website how to work around this bug: “For now, our suggested workaround is to warp past the point where the game crashes using the cheats menu. To do so, triple-click the left thumbstick, open the cheats menu, select warp, and warp to OND504. Make sure not to head to the merchant quarter, as your game will crash.” Aspyr added that the bug would be fixed with the next patch, but the company did not have time to say when this update would be released. Aspyr acknowledged in a tweet that this bug has essentially made the Switch port of KotOR II unplayable. Still, a company spokesperson told Axios that a small number of players are affected by the bug.

Aspyr, meanwhile, is working on a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for PlayStation 5 and PC. It will not be a remaster: the team is building the new version from scratch using modern visuals and technology. Aspyr has also recently been responsible for the re-releases of Star Wars: Jedi Knight II, Republic Commando and Episode 1 Racer, and porting Jade Empire and KotOR to iOS.

They could have paid more attention.
