Avatar: The Way Of Water: Another Shocking Return From The First Movie!

MOVIE NEWS – Stephen Lang has told Empire magazine a lot about what the invaders are up to in the new Avatar.

Empire magazine has given us another sneak peek at the upcoming Avatar: The Way of Water, and this time it’s the bad guys! Stephen Lang sat down to reveal some details about his returning character, Miles Quaritch, who is not only back, but more menacing than ever!

For those who need a refresher, Miles Quaritch started out as Jake Sully’s stern but humane superior.

As the military commander of the Resources Development Administration (RDA), he was the face of all the evil of the human race. With his scarred face and tough-guy demeanour, clad in massive mech armour, he was the ultimate adversary to take on Jake and the Na’vi. But as in many stories where good triumphs over evil, he was ultimately destroyed.

After taking down Jake and gaining the upper hand, Neytiri shot him with two arrows. Audiences thought that was the end of it, until we saw a familiar face in the trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water. A familiar face in a new blue skin! Lang details the character with Empire.

“He’s bigger, he’s bluer, he’s pissed off. There may possibly be an aspect of humility. When you take two Na’vi arrows in the chest, that’s gonna have some kind of effect on you.”

According to Empire, Quaritch isn’t the only one with a fresh new look. He’s joined by a whole host of recombinants (Recoms), avatars who have been given the memories of human soldiers. This opens up whole new possibilities for the RDA. Are these soldiers still very much alive? Maybe Quartich was saved at the last moment, which we will see in a flashback? Or was he, like the other soldiers, brought back from the dead in a new body? Either way, Lang says this new body makes his character even more menacing.

Empire and Lang reveal more details about what the RDA has been up to in the years between Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water. Since then, they’ve built an entirely new city, Bridgehead, with a factory that 3D prints weapons and other tools to help them. The stakes keep rising, and with them, the RDA and the shadow they cast on Pandora.

“They are coming back with an armada to take back the prized possession that they lost.”

Empire’s Avatar: The Way of Water has more details, and exclusive sneak peeks from the upcoming sequel to James Cameron’s blockbuster titan. Launching on 7 July, the magazine offers exclusive first looks at the film, with interviews with James Cameron himself, as well as the cast and crew. A few days ago, we learned that Sigourney Weaver is also returning in the new film.

Avatar: The Way of Water also stars newcomer Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, Michelle Yeoh, Cliff Curtis and Vin Diesel, alongside returning cast members Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Giovanni Ribisi and Matt Gerald. Avatar: The Way of Water will be released in cinemas on 16 December 2022.
