It’s quite a weekend for Tom Cruise. The actor celebrated his milestone 60th birthday on Sunday, and his name has become a trending topic worldwide, with fans sending him well wishes and discussing their favourite Cruise films. The box office also gave Cruise a wonderful gift with the news that his latest film, Top Gun: Maverick, has officially crossed the $1.1 billion mark in box office sales, making it still one of the highest-grossing films in history.

Top Gun 2 is estimated to make $34 million in the US over the 4th of July holiday weekend, according to The Numbers.

This brings its total box office revenue in the US and Canada to $572 million. Overseas, Maverick earned an additional $37 million, bringing its international revenue to $544.5 million. This puts the film well over the $1.1 billion mark, and as fans continue to pony up money for the sequel on the big screen, that number will only continue to rise.

The film has previously overtaken Doctor Strange’s Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness as the highest-grossing film of 2022, and the other movies coming this year will have the challenge to catch up. The film is also the highest-grossing film of Cruise’s career, an impressive feat for an A-list Hollywood star who is often a blockbuster. Even better news for Tom Cruise and the Maverick team is that the film has been received with overwhelmingly positive reviews, with critics and fans giving the sequel almost universal acclaim.
