The second updated version of Naughty Dog’s nine-year-old game (the first being the PlayStation 4 remaster) is not escaping the leaks.
Around Sony, it does seem ordinary to see much heavier leaks around PlayStation Studios games. Microsoft and Xbox Game Studios are much less likely to be in the news (but they also have rumours, let’s not deny that), and it’s only around Nintendo that maybe one or two rumours pop up every year, and there’s no leak of the scale of The Last of Us: Part 1…
The video below popped up on Reddit, which eventually settled on Imgur. The video source is Tom Henderson, who has grown into a reliable gaming industry insider over the last year. He then deleted the tweet and the video, but he did so too late (it can be said that the Internet doesn’t forget). Still, he won’t be in trouble because he has already removed the original content, and the others are posting their copies, which is effectively impossible to be stopped…
Anthony Vaccaro, a principle environment artist at Naughty Dog, wrote on Twitter: “Interesting thing here is we have never had any of our game leaks come from internal Naughty Dog. We’re great about not having leaks, as everyone in the studio knows how damaging it is. When it comes to outside partners, we have to work with, however… “He essentially blamed the leaks on them.
This leakage might not be that big of a problem because everyone knows the game. With a remake, Naughty Dog cannot rework the story to make it unrecognisable, let alone the scenes, so there’s not as much “damage” as with a new IP that hasn’t been announced yet (and they might have something like that in development)…
