Purple Lamp Studios is not kidding: a new game is coming for SpongeBob SquarePants, and based on what we’ve seen so far, the result might be fair.
The THQ Nordic Digital Showcase brought more announcements and videos, so it’s not out of the question that we’ll be going deep into them over the weekend. There were also videos for one of their already announced games, and one such was SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake. We’ve summarised what to expect from this in the past, so we’ll quote ourselves: “”Everything is possible in the infinite expanses of the cosmos… there might even be a reality where mayonnaise isn’t an instrument! When the mysterious fortune teller Kassandra grants SpongeBob and Patrick wishes, the two buddies unintentionally open portals to strange Wishworlds… it’s all F.U.N. and games until their friends get lost in the portals! Explore seven distinct worlds and don more than 30 cosmic skins to rescue the universe of the brand new adventure,” THQ Nordic says.
The sponge and the star have their Steam page up as well: “Wish-granting Mermaid’s Tears in the hands of SpongeBob and Patrick… What could go wrong? Sure, the very fabric holding the very universe together could come very undone, opening portals into Wishworlds full of knights, cowboys, pirates, and prehistoric snails. But that’s nothing everyone’s favourite sponge can’t handle—with the right cosmic costume! Everybody do the Cosmic Shake!
SpongeBob and Patrick meet the mysterious fortune teller Kassandra who gives them a vial full of Mermaid’s Tears. Legend claims they grant the wishes of those who are pure of heart… Naturally, the two best buddies get overexcited, and their flurry of wishes tears open the very fabric of space and time. All while releasing Cosmic Jelly onto Bikini Bottom and opening portals to strange Wishworlds. Now it’s up to our heroes to rescue their friends who got lost in the Wishworlds and bring back Bikini Bottom’s most iconic buildings. But Kassandra has her devious plan…
Unlock classic and new platforming skills like the Fishhook Swing and Karate Kick. Don more than 30 F.U.N.tastic costumes like SnailBob and SpongeGar. Travel to seven distinct Wishworlds like Wild West Jellyfish Fields and Halloween Rock Bottom. Experience all the buddy movie banter with SpongeBob’s permanent companion Balloon-Patrick. Meet all your favourite Bikini Bottomites from the series, voiced by their original actors. Enjoy the in-game soundtrack featuring 101 songs from the series, including Sweet Victory,” Purple Lamp Studios wrote. They were behind the Battle For Bikini Bottom remake, too.”
So, a year later, there’s still no word on a PlayStation 5/Xbox Series version, and there’s still no word on when SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch…
