PlayStation Plus’ Premium/Deluxe Tier Is Still Severely Lacking!

Fans of older games get little attention, apart from PlayStation 3 games that run in the cloud…

We recently wrote about the 20th anniversary of the Ratchet & Clank franchise, which Sony celebrated by adding five more games (in their PlayStation 3 version, as some of them weren’t initially made for it!) to the highest category of PlayStation Plus, Premium (or Deluxe if you don’t have the option to run the games from the cloud, i.e. PlayStation Now wasn’t previously available). However, even the PS3 updates aren’t that big or frequent. Even if you ignore this platform, it worsens!

The highest tier of PlayStation Plus allows you to run PS1, PS2 and PSP games locally. For PS2 games, Sony has done almost NOTHING: they’ve taken the “PS2 Classics” titles released for PlayStation 4 and moved them over. For PS1 and PSP games, subscribers on the ResetEra forums and Reddit are rightly critical: retro games are getting almost no attention. At the same time, we recently wrote about how veteran Nintendo developer Shigeru Miyamoto said backward compatibility for games is easier than ever!

We also covered some leaks: Dino Crisis, Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny and Ridge Racer 2 were leaked by Sony, and Syphon Filter 3 popped up in the South Korean age ratings. A total of zero of these games have appeared in PlayStation Plus Premium so far, and let’s not deny it: since the launch of the new PS Plus model, it’s mainly the Premium category that has received the LEAST attention. PS1 and PSP games are easy to emulate (they would run off without a hitch on a phone today), and even if licensing is the biggest problem (Miyamoto has talked about it), Sony has a HUGE library of games.

When will the subscribers get what they are putting on the table for? It’s incredible how Sony is ignorant of adding old games to their service.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
