Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a Huge surprise

MOVIE NEWS – Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is at the SXSW multimedia festival in Austin, and surprisingly, everyone is raving about it. The surprise arose because previous attempts to bring the world’s most popular tabletop role-playing game to the screen failed, even though they ran three times. However, everyone likes the current production, from the crusty-hearted critic of Variety, which is considered authoritative in the film industry, to the game expert judge of the geekportal.

The film’s directors, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, have often emphasized that they wanted to make a film that would appeal to die-hard D&D fans as much as those without the faintest breath. about the 49-year-old game and its evolution. And they weren’t daunted: the laymen also had a lot of fun, just like the veterans trained in the game.

The best example of this is Variety’s film expert Owen Gleiberman. He admits he didn’t have the faintest idea of Dungeons & About Dragons, because he has always avoided anything like that by far, yet he enjoyed all 134 minutes of the production. You really appreciate thatDungeons & Dragons: Outlaw Honor draws heavily from a wide range of popular culture, from The Lord of the Rings to The Prince’s Bride, Star Wars and em>X-Men all the way to Gladiator, but the whole thing will not be an incoherent mess, but an amazingly coherent and inventive new world. A stunning spectacle has been created, which can bring tears to the viewer’s eyes with its irresistible charm.

“I’m not a gamer, so any insider reference leaves me cold,” writes Fandango critic Eric Davis, like Gleiberman. “I can imagine what an experience this film is for real fans, but I have no reason to complain either, for my part, I saw a refreshingly pushed fantasy that impressed me with its imagination”.

“This movie is really cool, it’s full of inventive actions and grandiose sets, and they print just enough of everything,” raves Steve Weintraub from Collider. – On top of that, Chris Pine even sings, and Hugh Grant is very successful as the main villain.”

Jacob Hall of SlashFilm opines: “Man, this movie is a beast! This dizzying and funny action fantasy never misses a beat. Chris Pine is phenomenal, Michelle Rodriguez is super hot.”

At the SXSW press conference, the two directors were naturally asked if there would be a sequel, and Goldstein diplomatically replied that it would be a dream to continue the adventure with this team. Meanwhile, the Hollywood Reporter writes that Goldstein and Daley’s production company, GoldDay, has signed a multi-year contract with Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves with Paramount, and it wouldn’t be at all surprising if their next film was D&D 2.
