Nvidia Lost Its Mind: Will The GeForce RTX 4070 Be Too Expensive?

TECH NEWS – The price of the non-Ti GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card is leaking, and it doesn’t look affordable. So the unsellability of the 4080s will be repeated if it is indeed the pricing Nvidia has set…

Moore’s Law Is Dead reported on Nvidia’s pricing. There will be two launches for the GeForce RTX 4070. First, the reference models will be available on April 12, followed by the more expensive “premium” cards (presumably with unique cooling solutions and higher clock speeds). The testing embargo also ends on April 12 (so Nvidia is not confident in its product), and the company has told AIBs that only cards that are no more than $750 can be reviewed.

So the base model RTX 4070 has a suggested price of $750. The premium models have a recommended retail price (MSRP) of $800. The problem is that the reference RTX 4070 is only $50 below the RTX 4070 Ti, which is also $800. It would make the RTX 3070 $250 more expensive than the RTX 3070, which isn’t fair for Nvidia to stick with this pricing. Of course, the crypto craze has caused Nvidia and AMD to push prices up, and now artificial intelligence may cause Nvidia to stay at this level, but it shouldn’t.

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti has shown performance close to that of the RTX 3090 Ti, but the regular 4070 will be a cut-down card, so it’s aiming between the performance levels of the 3080 to 3080 Ti level. Since they were available between $800-850, that could be why Nvidia priced it that way (but that could change). AMD, on the other hand, does not yet offer a similarly priced RDNA 3 GPU. Some are already $850, and some are around $800, but there’s still room to cut.

So, the GeForce RTX 4070 will be available in stores from April 12, and then the non-reference models will be in our hands the day after.
