Russell Crowe’s Horror Film, The Pope’s Exorcist, Has Made a Hilarious Mistake!

MOVIE NEWS – The new horror film The Pope’s Exorcist follows a Catholic priest who confronts the horrific exploits of one of the founders of the Spanish Inquisition, based on secret files from the Vatican’s chief exorcist. But one scene in the film features not a symbol of the real Inquisition, but a completely fictional one: the Dragon Age Inquisition video game. Because, you see, it is an “inquisition” and the makers looked into it that much – maybe they “just googled it”!

Dragon Age Inquisition is a fantasy role-playing game released in 2014, in which the player controls a group of heroes who are members of a faction called the Inquisition. The symbol of the Inquisition is an eye and a sword, which refer to the two constellations of the universe: Visus and Judex. The symbol is often seen in the game: on armour, flags and other objects.

The film’s creators probably did not do extensive research on the history of the Inquisition and simply Googled “Inquisition symbol”. That’s how the Dragon Age Inquisition icon, which has nothing to do with the real Tribunal of the Holy Office of the Inquisition, which persecuted and tortured people of different faiths from the Catholic Church in Spain in the 15th and 19th centuries, got into the film.

The film was released in cinemas at the beginning of April, but only now has a Twitter user (@DesFleurBleues) discovered the glitch. He may be the only video game fan to have watched The Pope’s Exorcist. We may have been led to believe by a thousand memes that we shouldn’t expect anything from the Spanish Inquisition, but now the truth is out.

This is a real “win” for gamers, though not so much for the developers of Dragon Age Inquisition. Perhaps it wasn’t such a great idea on their part either, naming an organisation run by the game’s heroes after one of humanity’s most notorious and cruel institutions…
